Totalmente de acuerdo con Martilito.
El ARPA es un elemento "fundamental" para ciertos momentos de la navegación, tales como esas separaciones de tráfico repletas de pesqueros.
Que el AIS es una ayuda a la navegación es bien cierto, pero poder llamar directamente al buque que tienes a rumbo de colisión vía radio por su nombre concreto, también es un elemento que, si bien no se puede catalogar como sistema anticolisión, pueden ser tremendamente útil a ese fin si es utilizado convenientemente y con todas sus reservas.

Kongsberg Maritime Challenges Boundaries With New Space-Based AIS Delivery

On July 8 2015, ESA authorised the delivery of KONGSBERG’s fourth generation SAT-AIS Receiver flight models, to the Norwegian Space Centre; for integration into the NORSAT-1 satellite. With this delivery, KONGSBERG further strengthens its position as a supplier of space-based infrastructure in the maritime domain.

NORSAT-1 is scheduled for launch in Q1 2016 and will be Norway’s fourth AIS capable satellite to embed an AIS Receiver from Kongsberg Seatex AS. The delivery is in line with previous payload models provided by Kongsberg Seatex, and confirms the capabilities of this exciting product line.
