A Jordanian ferry caught fire Monday in the Red Sea after sailing from the Port of Aqaba en route to the Egyptian port of Nuweiba.
The captain of the ferry, dubbed “Amman” informed authorities in Aqaba that the fire was brought under control at 5:15 local time. “No casualties were reported,” said Aqaba Governor Ali Al Shra’a, who followed up on measures taken to put off the fire.
Director General of the Arab Bridge Maritime Company, the owner of the vessel, Hussein So’ub said the ship was operating an ordinary trip from Aqaba to Nuweiba, carrying on board 46 vehicles, 20 trucks and five buses, in addition to the 689 passengers.
